This artwork explores the natural textures and patterns of wood, using a Dremel tool to carve out lines and shapes that resemble topographical maps or cross sections of geological formations.
Visual economy is important to me and I tried to emphasize this with the direction of the lines. I wanted the lines to flow as much as possible like the original woodcut plate to keep the artwork uncluttered yet full of interest. Using a few elements of art can give a composition strength of interest and bring a sense of calm when looked at.
